Kaner was founded back in 1942 with two brothers whose dedication and tradition is still the pulling power for the second generation of directors of the Group whose operation has exceeded the borders of Cyprus. Companies under Kaner have represented many well known world wide consumer goods along the years and by 1970s has an established network of department stores on the whole island, Nicosia department store being the biggest on the whole Island.
In 1975 Kaner has been granted the first ever duty free licenses after the intervention in 1974 representing brands from Phillip Morris, Johnnie Walker & Sons and Rothmans International. During 1975 and 1976 Kaner was supplied by Deamarel. Late 1976 direct importation of these brands enabled Kaner to establish a distribution network for North Cyprus domestic market alongside the duty free operation.
| From 1976 to mid 1980s considerable volumes were achieved with PM products, Johnnie Walker and Rothmans Int. brands. The achievement of considerable volumes especially on PMI products was a big success for Kaner in a hereditarily a 100% Virginia blend market from British Colonial times. With the liberal movements in Turkish economy mid 1980s, N. Cyprus`s importance in duty free started to decline. |

In 1992 Kaner has introduced import and distribution of perishable goods through Kaner Gida Limited. In 2003 we have changed our portfolio mainly concentrating of distribution of a world wide brand name Efes Pilsen and has grown the market share in TRNC.
In 1994, we have ventured into Russian market through Kaner Ltd introducing cigars into this newly liberalized market. This operation has ceased in 2003 due to changes in taxation in Russian Federation.
In 1996 Kaner Dis Ticaret Ltd. Sti. has been founded focusing on Turkish Duty Free Market through distributing famous cigar brands like Hav?a?Tampa Jewels, Phillies, Nuggets and Backwoods from Altadis USA, Captain Black cigars and pipe tobacco and Samson RYO from BAT STC, King Edward and Swisher Sweets from Swisher International, Dannemann brands, and Imperial Tobacco cigarette brands including Davidoff and RYO brands through well established operators. In order for efficient and effective distribution we have established Aquamarine Dis Ticaret Ltd. Sti. in Mersin Free Zone, Turkey. We have existence in this zone since 1997. Kaner has also started distribution of Rizla RYO paper and MYO tubes through reputable wholesalers since 1999 in Turkish domestic market.
In 1996, Kaner has invested into a new venture called ?PC Market?. We are business receiver and authorised support provider for Compaq ? HP in North Cyprus. The aim was threefold;

To exploit the need for IT infrastructure in banking sector and SMEs.
To support the efficient and effective operation of the companies within Kaner Group. |
In 2001 Kaner has signed and agreement with KKTCell (North Cyprus mobile phone operator) with the distribution of prepaid cards though its existing distribution channels and through own operation subscription service points.
In 2003 Kaner has diversified further and founded another company called Kaner Development Limited developing and marketing luxury villas in North Cyprus.
In 2004 following her success in N Cyprus distribution of Diageo both for Domestic and Duty Free markets, Kaner has been given the opportunity to supply the select number of Turkish DF operators of the full Diageo range.
In 2005 Kaner has been granted Istanbul regional domestic distribution of Diageo products in Turkey.
Beginning of 2006 Kaner has been granted the domestic and duty free distribution of Mey Icki Sanayi ve Ticaret AS portfolio who has acquired the privatized alcohol section of Tekel ( Turkish Monopoly) in 2003, in the region of North Cyprus. Kaner will distribute the popular Yeni Raki and Tekirday Raki along with the remaining portfolio of spirits and wines of Mey. August 2006, the relationship with Mey has extended over to Turkish duty free distribution of Yeni Raki and full Mey portfolio.
There have also been new additions to our Tobacco portfolio with world renowned Habanos (Cuban) cigars and alongside the Dominican hand rolled premium cigar range of Altadis USA another well known brand Davidoff Cigars for the distribution within North Cyprus through all available channels.
In Oct 2006, tobacco portfolio has extended even further with the distribution on KTTE (subsidiary of Turkish Tobacco Monopoly in Cyprus) in North Cyprus domestic, duty free and military sectors.
2007 has seen further additions of regions for the existing supplier portfolio of Kaner. As of May 2007, Turkish duty free distribution of Turkish Monoploy (TEKEL) branded cigarettes of Tekel 2000, Tekel 2001, Samsun 216, Kariyer and Fors through KTTE (manufactured in N Cyprus) have commenced with full rate of penetration though all available duty free operators.
In July 2007, Kaner GKS Ltd has signed a 10 year Master Franchise agreement with Gloria Jeans Coffees. North Cyprus will be now enjoying this world wide brand coffee concept through 7 stores. This diversification of product range is the first seed of big name franchise agreements to come.
Further diversification came with the addition of pet care products from P&G. An exclusive agreement has been made in Feb 2008 with P&G International Operations Pet Care Division for the distribution of Eukanuba and Iams within speciality channels in North Cyprus.
As the group grew both in size and capacity, the need for a professional working environment has been achieved through the building of our own HQ in Nicosia, N Cyprus. The main work force moved into the HQ in September 2007 with distribution centers and stores dotted around N Cyprus .
Once the physical moved is completed the company have been re structured adopting SAP to streamline and organize the company within all business and sales units both in Turkey and N. Cyprus.
